Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in the heart of the Dinaric Alps. Sutjeska National Park the main trailhead for the Via Dinarica White Trail is rich both wildlife and in mountain scenary, being the location o a number of the country’s highest peak.

The Via Dinarica trail links no fewer than seven countries through these majestic mountains that National Geographic Traveler has named as one of the ”Best of the World” in 2017. The Via Dinarica white trail connects the highest peaks of the Dinaric Mountains in BiH and the most beautiful part of this trail is located in the Sutjeska National Park. In Sutjeska National Park there are two highest peaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mount Maglić and Mount Volujak. In the heart of these two mountain ranges is the most beautiful lake of the Dinaric Mountains, Trnovačko Lake, which has the shape of a heart and is truly a miracle of nature. Also at the foot of Mount Maglić is the Perućica rainforest and it is one of the two remaining rainforests in Europe. The white trail Via Dinarica connects all these places and continues towards the Zelengora mountain. Mount Zelengora is called the ”queen of the mountains” for a reason. The name Zelengora means green mountain, where 8 glacial lakes are located, better known as mountain eyes.
In this three-day hiking adventure, we will spend the night sleeping in wooden houses with homemade food. You will also be able to enjoy in our off raod Land Rover and Mitsubishi vehicles throughout the Sutjeska National Park.

What to Expect

The Via Dinarica white line trail connects not only the highest but also the most beautiful peaks of the Dinaric mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to research by users of the white line of the Via dinarica trail, this three-day hiking activity is the most beautiful in Bosnia and Herzegovina. And that’s for a reason. During three days you will enjoy the most beautiful natural environment. You will enjoy the spectacular landscapes of wild nature, the highest mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of the two remaining rainforests in Europe, as well as one of the most beautiful lakes in the Balkans, Trnovačko lake. In this tour, you can often see wild animals specific to the Dinaric mountains. The white trail of the Via Dinarica is truly impressive, stretching through various mountain landscapes. We will also visit Zelengore lakes, or the more famous mountain eyes.
In addition to the awesome natural beauty, we will enjoy in domestic specialties.

Itinerary

Day 1Zelengora

We will start the first day of our Via Dinarica trail with Zelengora mountain. Our guide will pick you up in the morning in Foca or Tjentiste and we will continue towards Zelengora mountain. The starting point for walking is the two lakes Donje and Gornje lakes. From there we will continue through the expanses of Zelengora to the highest peak Bregoc. After a short break, we will continue to Jugovo and Orlovacko lakes, where we will finish our hike for the day. In the evening, for dinner, we will organize a barbecue and an overnight stay near the lake.
The total length of the walk is about 5/6 hours with a total altitude of 600 meters.

Day 2Maglic

On the second day, we continue our white line of the Via Dinarica trail on Mount Maglic which is the most beautiful Dinaric mountain and the highest peak in BiH . We will return to Tjentiste with our off-road vehicle, where we will have breakfast in a restaurant. After that, we continue to Prijevor, which is the starting point for the hike to Maglic Mountain. Short briefing by the guide and departure. The guide will follow your every step and, if necessary, will help you in certain parts. After 2 hours and 30 minutes we will reach the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Enjoying the view with a lunch package.
Our white line of the Via Dinarica trail stretches further towards Trnovacko lake, a lake of the most beautiful shape. At the lake we will also take a long break and you can swim, the water is very warm during July and August. Return back to the car where we will spend the night with a beautiful view of the sunset.
The total length of the walk is about 7/8 hours with a total altitude of 1000 meters.

Day 3Rainfrest Perucica

Waking up in the morning and breakfast. Departure by vehicle to Dragos sedlo, where we will begin our adventure in the Perucica rainforest, the last activity of the Via dinarica white trail. In this adventure with our guide, you will feel the power of the great rainforest, which is the lungs of the Balkans. In the heart of the primeval forest is the Skakavac waterfall, which is our main destination. After visiting the waterfall, we return to our car along the same path.
Return to our starting point.
The total length of the walk is about 3h 30 hours with a total altitude of 300 meters.

Adventure BiH took four of us on private 3-day hike around Sutjeska National Park, and it was woderful! I definitely suggest them if you plan to hike in that area, as they can arrange the mountain cabins’ lodging and food for the group as well as the guide to walk you thru the region, which in many cases you would not be able to do on your own.
