This two-day Sutjeska National Park hiking tour combines the wild landscapes of Zelengora Mountain with the ascent to Maglic, the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Sutjeska National Park Hiking Tour is a two-day adventure. It combines the wide alpine landscapes of Zelengora with the ascent of Maglic, the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On the first day, we explore Zelengora Mountain, often called the Queen of Bosnia’s mountains. Known for its vast green pastures and fresh mountain air, Zelengora is home to nine glacial lakes. These lakes are scattered across gentle plateaus. Open grassy fields blend with clear mountain streams. This creates a calm landscape that feels far from modern life. Hiking on Zelengora is relaxed and unhurried, giving you time to enjoy wide pastures, fresh air, and the natural rhythm of the mountain.
After the hike, we spend the night in a wooden mountain house. Our accommodation is located near a lake inside Sutjeska National Park. The evening is reserved for rest and simple mountain comfort. You can enjoy the quiet of nature under the stars.
The second day is dedicated to Maglic Mountain. At 2,386 meters, it is the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The ascent changes gradually, moving from grassy slopes to rocky sections as the views open wider with every step. From the summit, the panorama of the park stretches in every direction. It leaves a lasting impression on every hiker.
For those in good physical condition, an alternative descent can be arranged. This route goes via Trnovačko Lake, a heart-shaped alpine lake located just across the border. Surrounded by dramatic peaks and deep silence, this is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Balkans. It is a perfect reward after reaching the summit.
Sutjeska National Park reveals its beauty slowly, through wide forests, open ridges, and long mountain views. Vast forests, open ridges, and wild terrain make this one of the last true wilderness regions. Throughout the tour, you will travel through the park in our off-road vehicles. Our Land Rovers and Mitsubishi give you access to remote and scenic mountain routes.
You can join the tour from Sarajevo, Mostar, Dubrovnik, or Montenegro. Organized transportation is available for all guests. For transport details, feel free to contact us or visit our Transport page.
Departure time flexible
During the Sutjeska National Park Hiking Tour, expect a perfect balance of mountain walking, untouched landscapes, glacial lakes, and panoramic views from Zelengora and Maglic.
Sutjeska National Park hiking offers a rare combination of high trails and glacial lakes. This means long walks through open highlands, quiet lake shores, and wide mountain views without crowds. Hiking trails across Zelengora and Maglic are among the most scenic routes in the entire country. Over two days, you will explore open alpine landscapes and walk beside crystal-clear water.
During this hiking adventure, you will visit five glacial lakes. You will also climb the highest peak of Zelengora and reach the summit of Maglic. One night is spent in a traditional wooden house near Gornje Bare Lake. This stay is surrounded by complete silence and untouched nature.
On Zelengora Mountain, we also visit a natural cave. This offers a short but memorable insight into the hidden underground world. Along the way, the experience is rounded off with homemade local food. Meals are prepared in the traditional way and enjoyed after full days on the trail. This tour is not about rushing. It is about breathing fresh air and experiencing the park as it truly is.
Book your Sutjeska National Park Hiking Tour today and experience Zelengora and Maglic through two unforgettable days of pure mountain nature, glacial lakes, and rewarding climbs.
The adventure begins with an early arrival at our camp. This is followed by breakfast and a short briefing with your guide. After departure, we drive through the dramatic landscapes of the park toward the Zelengora highlands. After approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes of scenic driving, we reach Borovno Brdo. This is the starting point of our hike.
Our route leads us to Jugovo Lake and Orlovacko Lake. Both are set in quiet alpine surroundings and are perfect for photos. Continuing deeper into Zelengora, we reach Stirinsko Lake. It is one of the most peaceful glacial lakes in the area, surrounded by wide meadows.
The trail gradually ascends toward Bregoč, the highest peak of Zelengora. After around 2 hours of hiking, we reach the summit. We enjoy panoramic views across the massif and take a longer break with a packed lunch. In the afternoon, the route continues downhill toward Gornje Bare Lake. After exploring the area, we proceed to Donje Bare Lake for the night. The evening is reserved for rest and a traditional dinner.
After breakfast, we head by off-road vehicle toward Prijevor. This is the starting point for the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina. From Prijevor, the ascent begins along a well-known mountain trail. The hike takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours with increasingly impressive views.
Upon reaching the summit of Maglic (2,386 m), we take time to rest. We enjoy the panoramic scenery and have a packed lunch overlooking the wild landscapes. For hikers in good physical condition, the descent continues toward the stunning Trnovacko Lake. This part of the route is longer and more demanding, but it is also one of the most rewarding sections of the entire tour. This lake is famous for its heart-shaped form and dramatic mountain backdrop.
After reaching the lake and enjoying a well-deserved break, the hike continues for another two hours along scenic mountain trails.
At the end of the trail, we return to the starting point by off-road vehicle.
Sutjeska National Park is the oldest and largest national park in the country, renowned for its breathtaking natural landscapes. It features the towering Maglić Mountain, the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the deep Sutjeska River canyon. The park is also home to Perućica, one of the last remaining primeval forests in Europe, offering a sanctuary for diverse flora and fauna. Hiking on Zelengora was also unforgettable.
Marvelous nature, breathtaking beauty, mountains, lakes and forests. Good for hiking, camping or just relax and enjoy refreshing air. The two days of this hiking adventure are truly phenomenal. Also on the third day we tried the canyoning adventure.
Amazing place, full of painful history of II. world war. Most amazing nature with scenery to die for. Both days are really nice tours and different.
Travelling through Sutjeska is one of the most beautiful experiences in my life. Amazing scenery, the people are lovely, the sky is pure and the forest looks pristine, yet guardian of secrets dating back to the realms of humankind. An incredible view of Trnovac lake, the most beautiful lake I have visited
